Is Your Thermostat Not Working?
Thermostat Not Working | HVAC & Thermostat Guide

Is your HVAC system on the fritz?

Before you go down a rabbit hole of evaluating the most expensive reasons possible, take a look at your thermostat.

The problem may be as simple as your thermostat not working properly. Many times, a simple thermostat recalibration is the answer.

4 Ways To Determine If Your Thermostat Is Not Working

Here are the signs that your thermostat may be to blame for your AC not working.

1. HVAC Isn’t Cooling Or Heating Properly

There are many signs that may indicate your HVAC system is experiencing problems and needs repair. The most obvious is when your HVAC system stops cooling and heating properly. While there are several possible causes for this, it’s a good idea to keep an eye on your thermostat and watch for anything that seems unusual.

2. The Interior Temps Are Not Matching The Thermostat’s Display

If your thermostat is not reading your interior temperature correctly, it’s not able to relay accurate information to the rest of your system. Especially if you’re experiencing other problems, it’s a strong possibility that your thermostat is to blame. Go ahead and switch out the batteries. If that doesn’t work, you’ll need an HVAC technician to determine whether your thermostat needs to be recalibrated or replaced.

3. Thermostat Is Not In An Ideal Location

Your thermostat’s location is imperative to its function. Different areas of your home or business may be warmer or cooler depending on various reasons. For instance, an open window will allow outdoor air temperatures to flow inside. And, direct sunlight will make your thermostat read higher than actual temperatures. Thermostats placed near a fireplace can register temperatures not indicative of the rest of the house. It’s best to keep your thermostat away from windows and fireplaces to prevent inaccurate readings.

4. Thermostat Still Not Working After Changing The Batteries

Isn’t it great how a simple battery swap can solve so many problems? There’s a chance that’s all your thermostat needs to get back to business.

But if problems persist after the new batteries are in place, it may be a sign that something else is wrong. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you have a major repair on your horizon. But it does mean that you need the help of a reputable HVAC technician to determine the issue at hand.

Schedule A Routine HVAC Tune-Up To Determine If Your Thermostat Needs Recalibration Or Replacement

The joys of owning or leasing a home or business come with a multitude of maintenance responsibilities. If you let a task slide too long, the results may be serious structural damage that is dangerous to be around and pricey to fix.

HVAC maintenance is no different. Especially down in Texas where it regularly reaches 100℉+ during summer, a thermostat that’s not working properly can cause problems with your HVAC system’s performance that will make your home more than uncomfortable and potentially pose a health risk.

So the next time your AC acts up, or when any issues crop up throughout your home, call in reinforcements right away. The expert technicians at Moss – Heating | Cooling will be there to make things cool again.
