AC Won't Turn On? Try These 4 Tips
AC Won't Turn On | AC Tune-Up To Prepare For Texas Heat

Don’t be stuck with a faulty AC system, especially in the Texas heat!

There are several potential reasons why your AC won’t turn on. Try these DIY tips and enjoy cool air again!

Is your AC ready for summer? Schedule your tune-up with Moss today to know for sure.

1. Check The Breaker To Your AC System

First, check that you have power running to your AC system. To do this, you will need to visit your breaker box. Simply lift the opening and locate the switch for your AC or HVAC system. Is it in the OFF position? If so, push the switch to the ON position.

If your AC still won’t turn on, proceed to the following tips.

2. Change Your AC Filter

Regularly changing your filter is, by all means, the simplest, least expensive, and most important thing you can do for your AC system. If it’s been a while, there’s likely a thick layer of dust, dander, and dirt prohibiting airflow through your ducts.

Take a look at the air filters you have on hand and determine the frequency with which you should replace them. Air filters vary in quality and longevity. You can certainly pay more to have an air filter that lasts several months. But be sure this is the case since many types of air filters should be changed monthly.

However, if you have pets, you may want to replace your air filter more frequently than instructed to ensure acceptable indoor air quality.

3. Clean Your AC Coils

Have you taken a peek at your AC coils lately?

If there’s a layer of sludge, this is preventing your AC from working up to its potential. The good news is that it’s fairly easy to clean them!

Using a specialized coil brush, follow the direction of the coils. Be careful to brush gently and not move the coils, as this can seriously damage your system.

4. Change Your Thermostat’s Batteries

If after tips 1-3 don’t do the trick, take a look at your thermostat. If it’s blinking or not working at all, you may need to replace the batteries.

Thermostats are often overlooked when the AC won’t turn on. But they’re also one of the easiest fixes. If the AC still does not work, you may need a thermostat calibration or a full system tune-up.
